Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) has emerged as a major global health issue in the 21st Century. NCD is responsible for 80% of disabilities and death in Fiji. NCD has an important impact on the lives of individuals, families and communities.
United Nations declaration on NCD as a global health threat in September 2011 on the advice of WHO, its affiliates and member states has been endorsed by 194 States including Fiji. States were advised to progress strategy and programs to stall and reverse this rising global tsunami. The global preventative approach to focus on Tobacco and Alcohol consumption, and increased Physicality and Food intake measures.
Under the Sustainable Development Agenda (SDG) 2016 – 2030 these measures have been endorsed under Goals 3,17. Public-Private Partnerships in health under SDG and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) need grass root understanding for effective implementation. The Fiji College of General Practitioners (FCGP) dedicates this conference to addressing NCD in its totality in partnership with Ministry of Health, Medical Services and Civil Society Organisations.
